P90X Review: My Day 1

A lot of customers I talk to tell me how much they have struggled with Day 1 of P90x, and they wonder if it is normal. I am here to tell you that everyone struggles on their day 1. It is perfectly normal, and I will now share with you my first day with P90x.

I think the first time I attempted to do P90x was back in 2007. Like so many others, I had seen the infomercials on TV. I was so excited to get started that it never occurred to me that it would be extremely challenging. I was used to doing other exercise DVD's, and at the time, most weren't that challenging. After that Day 1, I quickly realized this was no regular workout program.

My day 1 consisted of Chest and Back. Unless you are already in great shape, you are going to struggle. I was so pumped. I had the pull up bar set up and ready to go. I was mentally ready, but unfortunately my body wasn't. After the first set of pushups, I went over to the pull-up bar. Tony Horton said to set a number in my head. I picked 7 pull-ups. I barely did 2. The rest of the workout, I had to use a chair to do my pull-ups. My ego was crushed, because a girl was doing way more pull-ups then I could.

I struggled through the first round of workouts, barely able to keep up. While doing them, I failed to miss the part where Tony said to save some energy for round 2. Imagine my surprise when Tony said that we were going to be the exact same exercises in round 2. I almost cried, because I was so exhausted, but I just did my best. It wasn't pretty by any means, but it was definitely a wake up call. At the time I wasn't in terrible shape, but I definitely learned that day that P90x was no joke, and from that day on, I knew that anyone who could get through 90 days would be in the best shape of their lives.

So, if you started P90x and had a tough time, just know that a lot of people have. Don't get discouraged and don't quit. You will get stronger each workout, and I promise you that it will get easier. Stay committed, and you will get the results!
